Yulia Virko (Switzerland, 1994) studied illustration and painting in the United States: she earned her degree from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and also studied at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
Virko settled on painting as her core medium. Yet, being on a constant quest for her own signature style, she adds on to traditional technique with various experiments: combination, collage, photo archives, and new textures and colors. Through unusual metaphors and bountiful associations, the artist explores the complexity of human nature and consciousness, creating imaginary worlds. Virko has already implemented group projects in Russia, the United States and Europe. Her solo exhibitions were held in Russia (Consciousness Doesn’t Have Borders together with Anthony Gelfand, 2020–2021) and Kazakhstan (Work in Progress, 2021).
